Truck Crushes Two Brothers During Stop-and-Check in Akure
Two middle-aged brothers selling fruit beside Iyeoma Plaza on Reuben Fasoranti Road in Akure died instantly when a speeding truck rammed their motorcycle during a VIO stop-and-check operation on May 20, 2026. Witnesses say the traffic officers’ checks caused heavy congestion, and the driver was unable to brake in time. A nearby commercial driver recounted how he had just parked to deliver goods when he heard screams and saw the tragic collision. Police from the Ijapo Division evacuated the victims’ bodies to the morgue as angry youths blamed the VIO officers for the crash. Officers from the Nigeria Police Force later intervened to prevent violence and restore calm in the area.
