Nigeria’s E-Invoicing Rollout: What It Means for Businesses and Their Daily Sales
Nigeria’s electronic invoicing system requires eligible businesses to generate, transmit and validate taxable invoices through the Nigeria Revenue Service’s Merchant-Buyer Solution. Large taxpayers were first in line, while medium and smaller businesses are expected to join in later phases. The system could improve tax transparency, reduce missing records and make invoice tracking easier through unique identifiers and QR codes. However, businesses may also face onboarding, software integration, training and support costs. Failure to process taxable supplies through the system may attract penalties. The biggest concern is whether the platform can work reliably amid unstable internet access, power outages and technical failures. Businesses need clear fallback procedures, responsive support and strong data-protection safeguards so that compliance does not become another operational burden.
