IRGC Commander Hossein Zarifi Killed in Sistan-Baluchestan Operation

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard says Brigadier General Hossein Zarifi was killed during an operation against an armed group in Saravan, Sistan and Baluchestan province. Zarifi commanded the Sajjad Operations Base in the province, which borders Pakistan and Afghanistan and has faced repeated attacks on Iranian security forces. The IRGC said its forces also dismantled an armed cell in the Jihadabad area, killing five members, arresting others and recovering weapons and ammunition. It alleged that the group had been planning attacks to destabilise the province.
