Nigeria Launches Digital Postcode System for Building Identification
The Federal Government has launched a National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System to give buildings across Nigeria unique 11-character location codes. The code identifies a location from the state and local government area down to the district, neighbourhood cluster and specific building. NIPOST says the system is designed to support deliveries, e-commerce, identity verification and quicker emergency response. Residents will be able to look up their building codes through the official postcode platform or a planned USSD service. Buildings not yet listed can be submitted for review. The code belongs to the building, so residents who move will use the code assigned to their new address. The service is free for individuals and should be used alongside a normal street address for deliveries, banking verification and emergency services.
