Anglican Bishop Urges FG to Acknowledge Nigerians’ Economic Hardship

Former Anglican Communion Secretary-General Bishop Josiah Idowu-Fearon has urged the Federal Government to openly acknowledge the hardship facing Nigerians and clearly explain its response to the economic crisis. Speaking in Kaduna, he said many households were struggling with rising food, transport and electricity costs. He noted that some people had reduced their meals and that transport costs were affecting church attendance. The cleric questioned how increased revenue shared among the three tiers of government was improving citizens’ lives. He also warned religious leaders against becoming too close to politicians, saying it could weaken their ability to speak truth to power. On 2027, he urged Nigerians to focus on candidates’ character rather than religion, while calling on religious and traditional leaders to encourage open debate instead of directing people how to vote.
