Buratai Praises Navy for Recovering Stolen Crude and Curbing Maritime Piracy
Former Army Chief Tukur Buratai highlighted recent successes by Nigerian forces across multiple theatres. He said troops under Operation Hadin Kai repelled insurgent attacks in Borno and Yobe, killing dozens of fighters and seizing weapons. Precision airstrikes in the Lake Chad region also eliminated several ISWAP militants. In the North-West and North-Central, soldiers rescued kidnapped victims, recovered rustled cattle and destroyed bandit camps in Katsina, Zamfara and Plateau States. Naval units under Operation Delta Safe uncovered illegal bunkering sites in Rivers State, recovered thousands of litres of stolen crude and helped curb piracy in the Gulf of Guinea. In the South-East, troops arrested a suspected IPOB commander and recovered the remains of two fallen soldiers for full military honours. Buratai credited these gains to improved intelligence, inter-agency cooperation and the resilience of troops, urging continued public support to sustain momentum against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and oil theft.
