Professor Udenta Proposes 18-Month Unity Government After 2027 Elections

Professor Udenta O. Udenta has proposed an 18-month Government of National Unity after the 2027 general elections to help prevent post-election crises. Speaking on a television programme on Monday, Udenta said elections alone cannot build trust or guarantee national stability. He argued that Nigeria must prepare for what happens after results are announced. He proposed a Sovereign Commission for Democratic Sustainability and National Stability, bringing together the sitting president, president-elect, presidential candidates, party leaders, labour unions, journalists and civil society groups. According to him, candidates should commit to participating in dialogue whether they win or lose.
