Open Letter to Obaseki: Why I Believe Edo Voters Rejected Ighodalo
I saw Godwin Obaseki's congratulatory message to Governor Ademola Adeleke after the Osun election, and I believe he should reflect on why Asue Ighodalo lost in Edo State. In my view, many Edo voters stayed away because they were disappointed by Obaseki's second term. I believe this dissatisfaction came from allegations of poor infrastructure delivery, rising insecurity and cult activity, the handling of local government elections, and strained relations with the traditional institution. I also believe his conduct during the 2023 presidential election, including the treatment of Peter Obi and alleged pressure on voters in places such as Ologbo, affected public trust. The Obayantor crisis is another issue I feel received insufficient attention, especially given reports that residents and farmers were displaced. Edo people can strongly defend a candidate they genuinely support. Obaseki should take the outcome as a lesson and allow Edo voters to decide their future freely.
