US Treasury Chief Warns Iranian Airlines Could Face Global Shutdown Under Sanctions
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says Iranian airlines could be unable to operate internationally from September 23 because of expanded US sanctions. He said airports, fuel suppliers and ticket sellers risk being cut off from the US dollar system if they provide services to Iranian carriers. Iran’s airspace was closed after US-Israeli attacks began in late February, although limited flights by Iranian airlines have since resumed. Iran’s aviation sector has long faced restrictions on aircraft purchases, spare parts and maintenance services.
