How I Built Lagos Life Overnight and Turned It Into a Viral Nigerian Game
I built Lagos Life in less than 24 hours after seeing Nigerians embrace locally inspired games online. I launched it on October 1, and by the time I woke up a few hours later, it was trending and had attracted more than 10,000 plays. My journey started years earlier, learning to code with a basic Chromebook while dealing with poor electricity and internet access in Abia. I later landed remote work, earned a UK Global Talent Visa and continued experimenting with personal projects. Within days of launching Lagos Life, the game reached more than one million players. Revenue came from in-game purchases, virtual billboards and music promotions. Scaling quickly has brought technical problems, including lag and an error that wiped players’ in-game funds, but I now plan to focus on the game and other projects full-time. My advice to aspiring developers is to start with the tools available, stay consistent, explore different areas of tech and keep improving through practice.
