Suspected Power Thief Electrocuted While Tampering with High-Tension Pole in Port Harcourt
A man in his late twenties died after attempting to remove a component from a high-tension installation in Oginigba community, Port Harcourt. The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company confirmed the incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Friday, April 24. Company officials said electricity was restored soon after the equipment was disconnected, causing the suspect to be electrocuted on the spot. The communications head described the victim as "a casualty of his own trade" and warned that existing laws carry penalties of up to 21 years’ imprisonment for electricity vandalism. Investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals involved in vandalism in the area. Authorities hope this tragedy will deter others from similar criminal acts.
