State Police Bill Nears National Assembly as Working Group Completes Final Review
The Presidential Working Group says the National Policing Bill is about 90% complete and could be transmitted to the National Assembly within two weeks. Femi Gbajabiamila, the group’s chairman and Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, said outstanding observations from state governors would be resolved after one final meeting. He stressed that the bill is separate from the constitutional amendment required to establish state police. The proposed reforms come as communities continue to demand stronger security and more effective policing across Nigeria. Governors, police leadership, justice officials and other stakeholders attended the State House meeting in Abuja.
