Troops Raid Suspected Criminal Camp in Anambra Forest, Recover Arms and Ammition
Nigerian Army troops have raided a suspected criminal camp in the Ogbaru forest area of Anambra State, recovering assault rifles, locally made guns, ammunition and materials suspected to be for improvised explosive devices. The operation reportedly followed the rescue of three people abducted in the Osakwa area of Ihiala Local Government Area. A suspect, identified as Sunday Obi, was arrested during a follow-up operation, and information from him allegedly led security operatives to the camp in Abator, Ogbaru. Troops reportedly crossed waterways by canoe before reaching the hideout. The occupants allegedly fled during an exchange of gunfire. Security personnel recovered two AK-47 rifles, three pump-action guns, three dane guns, ammunition, mobile phones, solar equipment and batteries. Investigators are continuing efforts to trace other suspected members of the group and identify those who may have supplied logistical support.
