Atiku Faults Tinubu Administration as Child Malnutrition Worsens

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised the Tinubu administration over worsening child malnutrition, describing it as a painful consequence of Nigeria’s rising cost of living. New nutrition data show that 41.1% of Nigerian children under five are stunted, while 19.2% are severely stunted. The rate rises to 58.2% in the North-West. Experts also estimate that nearly two million children are living with severe acute malnutrition, with only about two in 10 receiving treatment. Atiku linked the crisis to rising food, transport and energy costs. He called for expanded treatment and nutrition programmes, as well as a locally focused petroleum intervention that he said could lower production and distribution costs.
