Kaduna Cleric Calls for Due Process in El-Rufai’s Detention
Islamic cleric Malam Sunusi Khalil has urged authorities to either prosecute former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai or release him, arguing that prolonged detention without a conviction is unjust. Speaking during a Friday sermon in Kaduna, Khalil said anyone accused of an offence should face due process and be sentenced if found guilty. He also called for an explanation of the circumstances surrounding the former governor’s detention. El-Rufai was reportedly arrested on allegations of abuse of office, money laundering and wiretapping. He remains in custody ahead of the next adjourned date, September 22, 2026.
