Woman Tells Oyo Court Her Drunken Husband Beats Her From 9pm to 5am
A Grade A Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan, has adjourned a divorce case filed by Eluronke against her husband, Ayomipo. She says his daily heavy drinking leads to violent outbursts that humiliate her and disturb their neighbours. Eluronke says Ayomipo justifies his drinking as a way to sleep better and avoid depression, yet he becomes uncontrollable and beats her mercilessly—once for eight hours straight overnight. She moved out after one such incident but claims he still harasses her at her new home. She is asking the court for dissolution of the marriage, full custody of their child, and an order requiring Ayomipo to pay ₦70,000 monthly for the child’s feeding, education, and healthcare. The case has been adjourned to June 30 for defence.
