Serbia’s President Vucic Resigns Ahead of Snap Parliamentary and Presidential Elections

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has announced his resignation, seven months before the scheduled end of his second and final five-year term. The move comes as Serbia prepares for an October 25 snap parliamentary election. It also opens the way for an early presidential poll, with the first round expected before the end of December. Outgoing parliament speaker Ana Brnabic will serve as acting president until a successor is elected. Vucic’s ruling Serbian Progressive Party is polling ahead of the youth-backed Student List, which emerged from protests after the 2024 Novi Sad railway station canopy collapse.
