Keyamo Says ₦70,000 Minimum Wage Can No Longer Meet Rising Living Costs

Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo says Nigeria’s ₦70,000 national minimum wage is no longer sufficient for workers facing rising food, transport and other living costs. Speaking at a pre-retirement summit, he urged the Federal Government to meet organised labour halfway in ongoing wage discussions. He noted that labour unions are demanding as much as ₦500,000, while the current wage has lost much of its purchasing power since it was introduced in 2024. Keyamo also criticised cases in which workers are denied basic allowances while senior officials approve large travel expenses. NLC President Joe Ajaero similarly called for measures to ease the burden of fuel, transport and food prices on Nigerians.
