Akwa Ibom’s 31 LGAs Received ₦338bn in Two Years, Records Show

Akwa Ibom’s 31 LGAs Received ₦338bn in Two Years, Records Show

Records attributed to the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation indicate that Akwa Ibom’s 31 local government areas received about ₦338.2 billion from the Federation Account between July 2024 and July 2026. The allocations include statutory revenue, VAT, non-oil revenue augmentation and ecology-related funds. The report raises concerns about the operation of the state-local government joint account and alleges that deductions, including a reported ₦1 billion monthly pension deduction, are made from local government funds. These claims require independent verification from the state government and relevant authorities. It also refers to an FOI suit in Uyo seeking spending and policy records from the councils. The report alleges that the applicants later withdrew the case after receiving money from the chairmen, an allegation that has not been independently established. Former senator and diplomat Ita Enang was also quoted as questioning the performance of Itu Local Government despite the funds reportedly received.
