Hamas Calls October 7 Attack a “Military Achievement” on Third Anniversary

Hamas military wing spokesman Abu Obeida described the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel as an “extraordinary military achievement” in a statement marking its third anniversary. He claimed the assault had weakened Israel’s security doctrine. He also pointed to drone attacks launched from Yemen and Iraq and suggested that further attacks could be launched against Israel from other directions. The October 7 attack killed about 1,200 people in Israel, most of them civilians, and saw 251 people taken hostage into Gaza. The ensuing Israel-Hamas war has caused widespread destruction in Gaza, where the Hamas-run health ministry reports more than 74,000 deaths.
