EFCC Withdraws Cybercrime Charges Against Maryam Shehu and Abubakar Abdulhamad
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has withdrawn the cybercrime charges filed against Maryam Isah Shehu and Abubakar Shuraim Abdulhamad at the Federal High Court in Abuja. The two were arraigned on August 20, 2026, over allegations of cyberstalking and publishing malicious information against the anti-graft agency under the Cybercrimes Act. EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede ordered the withdrawal after appeals for leniency, including an apology from Shehu’s father and interventions from other Nigerians. The Commission said it would continue to carry out its mandate but warned against deliberate attacks on its image through any platform.
