Trump Says He Does Not Want Norwegian Immigrants After Nobel Peace Prize Snub
Donald Trump said at a rally in Michigan that he did not want immigrants from Norway after failing to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. He claimed he would welcome people from Denmark but not Norway, while again insisting that he deserved recognition for his peacemaking efforts. There is no indication that the US has introduced any new immigration policy targeting Norwegians. Norway’s foreign minister restated that the Nobel Committee operates independently of the Norwegian government. The committee awarded this year’s prize to South African former UN human rights chief Navi Pillay for her work supporting accountability for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Trump criticised the decision and questioned why the prize could not be shared with him. The Nobel Committee has said an announced prize cannot be revoked, shared or transferred.
