Mgbakwu Community Erupts as Security Operatives Allegedly Shoot and Kill Only Son
Anger and grief poured onto the streets of Mgbakwu in Awka North LGA over the weekend. Youths protested after operatives from a state security outfit allegedly shot Chinyeaka “Akidi” Ike while he spoke to his wife by the roadside. He was rushed to a hospital but did not survive. Residents say this tragedy follows a similar fatal shooting in the same community one year ago. A viral video shows friends weeping and begging for his life by his hospital bed. On Friday morning, protesters blocked a popular market entrance and marched toward Awka. They rode motorcycles, carried fresh leaves, and demanded that the governor rein in armed operatives and deliver justice. Days after the incident, neither the security outfit nor the state government has released an official statement. The victim’s heavily pregnant wife and family remain without answers or closure.
