Niger Delta Youths Condemn Eradiri’s Defense of Tantita Contract, Demand Its Termination
A coalition of Niger Delta youths under the Niger Delta Centre for Justice and Accountability (NDCJA) has publicly distanced itself from former IYC President Udengs Eradiri’s recent defence of the Tantita Security Services pipeline surveillance deal. They say his remarks are ‘self-serving propaganda’ meant to protect vested interests rather than the region’s wellbeing. The youths accuse Eradiri of ignoring the rampant oil theft that still costs Nigeria an estimated $15 billion a year and point to new illegal bunkering hubs discovered as proof that the centralized contract has failed. They highlight the ₦48 billion annual drain on public funds and say the touted job figures often benefit patronage networks more than local communities. To ensure true accountability and equitable security, the NDCJA calls for decentralised, competitive pipeline surveillance contracts in each oil-producing state. They propose transparent bidding, clear performance metrics, and genuine community engagement to prevent monopolies and strengthen federalism. The group urges President Tinubu to audit existing contracts and embrace this decentralisation under the Renewed Hope Agenda, warning that Nigeria cannot afford to cling to a failed, centralised patronage system disguised as progress.
