Umahi Says ICPC Has Queried Ongoing Federal Projects, EFCC Also Invited

Works Minister Dave Umahi says the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Offences Commission has reviewed procurement and execution processes for all ongoing Federal Government projects and issued queries where necessary. He said the Ministry of Works has also asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to carry out a similar review. Speaking at the flag-off of road projects in Lagos, Umahi said the government had completed more than 260 emergency projects nationwide at a cost exceeding ₦250 billion. He also claimed that over 10 bridges had been reconstructed in each state during the past three years. On the ongoing Eko Bridge repairs, Umahi said the affected carriageway was only partly closed to avoid severe traffic disruption. He said engineers are monitoring a crack daily and plan to reinstall piles and build a new pile cap as part of remedial work expected to extend the bridge's lifespan by 15 to 20 years. He added that newly deployed guards on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway will help prevent hawking, loitering, commercial motorcycling, illegal parking and refuse dumping.
