Ruggedman Says Some Artists Use Afrobeats to Hide a Lack of Talent

Ruggedman has criticised what he sees as a lack of depth in parts of Afrobeats. Speaking at Ambassador Wahala’s Pensioner comedy show in Abuja, the veteran rapper said some artists rely on catchy phrases and strong production instead of developing their musical ability. He argued that live performances with a band would reveal which artists can truly sing, rap or perform. However, he exempted Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy from his criticism, describing them as established musicians with a long track record. Ruggedman also said he would be open to collaborating with all three artists. During the event, he announced his new fragrance line, launched to mark his birthday.
