Police Invite APC Aspirant Who Sued Party and INEC Over 2027 Primaries
The Nigeria Police Force has invited APC presidential aspirant Bayero Lawal for questioning after he filed a lawsuit against the party and INEC over the 2027 presidential primaries. Lawal alleged that the APC denied him the expression-of-interest and nomination forms needed to contest against President Bola Tinubu. He is also challenging the reported ₦100 million cost of the forms, arguing that the fee is not provided for in the party’s constitution. In a letter dated July 29, the Force Intelligence Department said Lawal’s name featured in an ongoing investigation and requested clarification from him. The police did not disclose the details of the investigation. Lawal, a founding APC member, joined the party’s presidential screening committee and INEC in the case before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
