Troops Repel Zamfara Base Attack, Rescue Nine Kidnap Victims

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA repelled an overnight terrorist attack on their Forward Operating Base in Kasuwan Daji, Kaura Namoda LGA of Zamfara State, and rescued nine kidnapped civilians. The attackers reportedly tried to infiltrate the base at about 1:40 a.m. on Sunday but were detected by troops, who engaged them and forced them to retreat. Reinforcements pursued the fleeing gunmen and rescued the victims. One Army officer and one police officer were killed in the gun battle, while two soldiers sustained gunshot wounds and were airlifted for treatment. The Army said the injured personnel are stable and denied claims that six security officers died. Security forces say operations are continuing to track the fleeing attackers and assess their losses.

Repelling the attack and rescuing nine civilians is encouraging, especially given how vulnerable kidnapped people can be.

Successful response is welcome, but the attempted infiltration still shows the security pressure in Zamfara should not be understated.

Authorities should sustain patrols, improve early warning around Kasuwan Daji, and ensure the rescued civilians receive proper support.
