UK Court Hands Nigerian Man 28-Year Sentence for Decades of Child Abuse
A 61-year-old Nigerian national has been sentenced to 28 years in prison at Inner London Crown Court for carrying out a series of sexual offences against two children over a 15-year period. Anthony Adewale Sobogun was convicted of 17 non-recent offences, including intercourse with a girl under 13 and the rape of a child, committed during the 1990s and early 2000s. Investigators built their case through victim-led, video-recorded interviews and medical records that confirmed an abortion after one victim became pregnant. Detective Constable Charlotte Lockyer praised the survivors’ courage, emphasizing that it is never too late to report abuse. The Metropolitan Police highlighted recent upgrades to their interview suites aimed at making the process more sensitive and supportive for victims.
