SERAP Sues FG at ECOWAS Court Over Unaccounted N78.8bn Cash Transfer Funds
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has filed a suit against the Federal Government at the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice over alleged irregularities involving N78.8 billion meant for cash-transfer and social-protection programmes. SERAP said the Auditor-General’s 2024 report raised concerns about payments, expenditure and beneficiary records linked to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, the National Cash Transfer Office and the National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office. The group said the funds were intended to support more than 3.2 million households across 35 states. It is asking the court to order an investigation, a full account of the funds, recovery of any money improperly spent where established, and stronger oversight of the programmes. No hearing date has been fixed for the case.
