Peter Obi Urges Nigerians to Move Beyond Civil War Grudges and Build Unity

Peter Obi says Nigeria must move beyond the grievances of the 1960s, including the events that led to the civil war, and focus on building a future based on love and unity. Responding to concerns that some northerners still resent the killing of Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, Obi said he should not be held responsible for events that happened when he was four years old. He argued that historical wounds can only be overcome through reconciliation. Obi also alleged that President Bola Tinubu had previously expressed doubts about “One Nigeria”. He said his own political vision is centred on national unity and a “New Nigeria”. The remarks were made during an interview on Arise TV.
