FENRAD Commends Otti’s Abia Projects, Seeks Better Workers’ Welfare and CSO Inclusion
The Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy and Development has commended the Abia State Government on the state’s 35th anniversary, citing road projects, urban renewal, sanitation, security efforts and improved economic activity in Aba and other communities. The group urged the government to make workers’ welfare central to development. It called for prompt payment of salaries and pensions, better working conditions, staff training and stronger social protection for civil servants, teachers, health workers, pensioners and other residents. FENRAD also asked the state to create regular platforms for civil society, professional bodies, community groups, women, youths and persons with disabilities to participate in policymaking, budgeting and project monitoring. It said infrastructure development should be transparent, environmentally sustainable and fairly distributed across urban, rural and underserved communities.
