Musk Calls Tesla’s New Roadster a ‘Flying Car’, Targets 2028 Production
Tesla and SpaceX chief Elon Musk showcased a new Roadster sports car fitted with thrusters at SpaceX’s test facility in Texas. During the livestreamed demonstration, the vehicle accelerated up a steep ramp and landed on its wheels. Musk said the proposed system would use ultra-high-pressure air tanks to generate thrust. He described the project as a collaboration between Tesla and SpaceX, while admitting that its success was not guaranteed. Production is expected to begin in 2028, according to Musk. The project still faces major questions around safety, regulation, infrastructure and the cost of making flying vehicles commercially viable.
