Aba Businessman Jailed for Producing Counterfeit Goya Olive Oil
An Aba-based businessman, Innocent Okoye, has been sentenced to five years in prison for producing counterfeit Goya Extra Virgin Olive Oil. The Federal High Court in Umuahia convicted Okoye on two counts following an investigation by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control. The court also gave him the option of a ₦5 million fine. NAFDAC said its April 2026 enforcement operation uncovered an illegal facility in Aba where imitation olive oil was allegedly produced. Laboratory analysis of samples recovered from the premises reportedly confirmed that the products were counterfeit. The agency warned consumers to be careful about the source and packaging of edible oils, noting that fake products may contain undeclared ingredients and harmful contaminants.
