Niger Delta Houseboat Firms Seek Payment After 33 Months of Alleged Arrears

Three indigenous Niger Delta firms have appealed to President Bola Tinubu over alleged unpaid houseboat rental fees spanning 33 months. The firms say their vessels have remained available for military operations in the Niger Delta, while their outstanding payments have not been settled. The contractors say the delay has left workers struggling with unpaid salaries and has affected the maintenance of the vessels. They are seeking permission for the houseboats to be released in rotation for dry-docking, servicing and recertification. The dispute is before the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, where the parties are exploring an amicable settlement. The firms want the Federal Government to verify the alleged debt, facilitate payment and create a clearer payment framework for marine service providers working with the Armed Forces.
