Omagu Eza Heritage: Our Claims of Salt, Ofo and Mineral Wealth
We want to focus on the history and heritage of Omagu Eza rather than broader accounts of the seven kingdoms. Our account traces the community’s lineage across roughly 30 generations and centres on the Ofo Ala Nnukwu hill, the Oweze family structure and the role of women, elders and kindred in community life. We point to the Uburu-Okposi salt lakes, the Ofo hill and the Enyigba lead-zinc area as physical evidence of our heritage and economic potential. We also cite historical archival records and an eighteenth-century map as materials that deserve closer study. These claims should be independently verified through recognised historical, geological and government sources. We call on community members to document local sites, preserve oral history for younger generations and seek fair community benefits from any lawful mining activity. For us, the message remains simple: our heritage, land and natural resources should be understood and protected.
