Egba Chief Says Hunger in Nigeria Is Linked to Laziness and a Failing System

The Apena of Egbaland and Oluwo of Iporo-Ake, Chief Alani Bankole, says Nigeria has enough legitimate opportunities for people willing to work. He argued that many cases of hunger are linked to laziness and a declining culture of hard work among young people. Speaking during a media interaction, Bankole blamed both parents and the wider system. He said children should be introduced early to productive work and taught how to create wealth rather than depend only on salary jobs or government support. The traditional chief also acknowledged that Nigeria's political and governance structures contribute to hardship. He called for stronger institutions, merit-based leadership and human-capacity development, arguing that changing administrations alone will not solve the country's deeper problems.
