Are South-East and South-South Infrastructure Projects Being Left Behind?
I am asking whether federal infrastructure development is being spread fairly across Nigeria. Several major projects in the South-East and South-South, including the East-West Road and proposed deep seaports in Bonny, Warri and Ibom, have faced long delays or remain incomplete. Meanwhile, major projects in the South-West, such as the Lekki Deep Seaport and new transport corridors, have recorded more visible progress. The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is also progressing from its Lagos end, while many people are still waiting to see substantial work in other coastal states. This is not about pulling any region down. The South-East and South-South contribute through oil, gas, ports, trade and taxes, and cities such as Aba, Onitsha, Port Harcourt, Uyo and Calabar are important commercial hubs. Federal roads linking these areas should not remain unsafe or impassable for years. Nigeria needs balanced development. Completing the East-West Road, federal roads in the South-East, and the Bonny, Warri and Ibom port projects would strengthen trade, safety and national growth across every region.
