England Allocates £41m to Restore Churches, Synagogues and Historic Sites
The UK government has committed more than £41 million to repair and restore 74 historic buildings across England, including churches, synagogues, town halls, market halls and castles. The funding will be provided through the Places of Worship Renewal Fund and the Heritage at Risk Capital Fund. Fifty-one sites will share more than £18 million for repairs to places of worship. Major projects include work at Dover Castle, Brodsworth Hall in Doncaster and Osborne, Queen Victoria’s former residence on the Isle of Wight. The schemes aim to tackle structural damage and keep the sites accessible to local communities and visitors. Historic England will deliver the projects as part of the wider £1.5 billion Arts Everywhere Fund, which is intended to protect cultural and heritage venues across England.
