Anambra Denies Violating Court Order in Nsugbe Igwe Election

The Anambra State Government has denied claims that it violated a court order by recognising the traditional ruler of Nsugbe, who was elected on 30 August 2026. According to the state’s legal adviser, the court order being circulated concerned an earlier election scheduled for 8 August 2026. He said the state government was not a party to the case, and that the earlier election was cancelled in line with the court’s directive. He added that the court allowed an election to proceed if the dispute was resolved amicably. The state said its caretaker committee helped parties in the community resolve the dispute and agree to a new process. The government maintained that no order restrained its lawful functions on chieftaincy matters and reaffirmed its commitment to obeying court orders.
