State Police Bill Advances as Five More Assemblies Approve Amendment
The Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill has submitted a draft National Policing Bill, 2026, along with 29 related amendment bills, to the Ministry of Justice for review and validation. Ogun, Delta, Plateau, Kwara and Adamawa assemblies have now approved the constitutional amendment for state policing. They join Edo, Osun, Oyo, Rivers and Zamfara, which had earlier endorsed it. The proposed Sixth Alteration Bill would amend Section 214 of the Constitution. It would replace the single Nigeria Police Force with separate Federal Police Service and State Police Services to address security challenges across the country.
