Tinubu Calls for Local Defence Manufacturing at AFRIDEX 2026 in Lagos
President Bola Tinubu has called for stronger African defence capabilities through local manufacturing, technology transfer and strategic partnerships. He spoke at the opening of the Africa International Defence Exhibition, AFRIDEX 2026, in Lagos, where Nigeria also unveiled its first 3D-printed uncrewed surface vessel. Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu urged African defence leaders to deepen joint training, intelligence sharing and maritime cooperation. He said cross-border security threats require cross-border solutions, especially in securing the Gulf of Guinea. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by his deputy, said security was essential for economic growth. Defence Minister Christopher Musa added that Nigeria wants partnerships that will support local production of military hardware within the next year.
