TOAN Accuses Lagos NURTW of Blocking Tricycle Operations Despite Court Orders
The Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN) has asked President Bola Tinubu and the Inspector-General of Police to intervene in its dispute with the Lagos chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). TOAN chairman Monsuru Agbabiaka alleged that the association has approvals from the Lagos State Government and several National Industrial Court judgments supporting its right to operate. He said its members have nevertheless faced continued restrictions from the NURTW. According to Agbabiaka, TOAN operates more than 10,000 tricycles and its members are struggling with daily payments and operational barriers. He also alleged that the NURTW’s actions have prevented the association from fully commencing work. A National Industrial Court ruling dated August 5, 2026, reportedly directed Lagos NURTW officers to appear in court on October 15, 2026, to show cause why they should not face committal proceedings over alleged disobedience of an earlier judgment.
