Power Generation Drops From 3,840MW to Below 500MW, Triggering Outages
Nigeria’s electricity generation fell sharply from about 3,840MW at 7am on Monday to 476.70MW by 1pm, triggering outages in several parts of the country. Most major power plants, including Egbin, Jebba, Shiroro and Kainji, recorded zero output during the drop. Only a few stations, such as Odukpani NIPP, Omotosho and Sapele, were supplying limited electricity. The Nigerian Independent System Operator said there was no system-wide grid disturbance and suggested the outages could be linked to local tripping or temporary faults. The incident has renewed concerns about the reliability of power supply for homes and businesses.
