Time to Hold Governors Accountable for Nigeria’s Insecurity Crisis
Insecurity has turned our states into killing fields. Governors blame the federal government or claim they can’t command the army while collecting huge security votes. A proven approach is forming a special state security force. It would combine local vigilantes with police units. Proper training, weapons, vehicles, and communication gear would improve response times and intelligence gathering. Take Plateau State for example. It spends over N2.6 billion a year on security. Imagine recruiting 200 local guards plus police officers in each of its 17 LGAs. With good equipment, these hybrid forces could cut attacks by up to 80%, allowing farmers to return to their fields and markets to thrive. We demand accountability. Governors must equip and empower communities instead of pocketing funds. What solutions would you propose?
