Tompolo Reportedly Emerges as Major Fidelity Bank Shareholder Ahead of CEO Transition
Fidelity Bank is preparing for a leadership transition as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe is expected to complete her tenure on December 31, 2026. The bank’s board has said its search for a successor has moved into regulatory consideration. Reports claim that Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, became the bank’s largest individual shareholder after participating in its recent capital-raising exercise. The claim has not been independently confirmed by Fidelity Bank or regulators. The report also suggests that Tompolo’s reported stake could give him significant influence in the succession process. Peter Obi, a former chairman associated with the bank, is also mentioned in connection with its ownership history. Any appointment of a new chief executive will be subject to the bank’s board process and regulatory approval by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
