Eight Soldiers Killed After Army Patrol Vehicle Hits ISWAP Landmine in Borno
Eight Nigerian soldiers were killed after their patrol vehicle struck a landmine in Kinuba village, near Gamboru in Borno State. The troops were inspecting anti-jihadist militia members clearing thickets along a highway when the explosive detonated. A militia member supervising the clearing operation was injured by shrapnel. The attack came on October 17, as the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, visited Maiduguri following an earlier attack on a military base. Security sources blamed the incident on ISWAP, whose fighters have used roadside explosives and ambushes against troops and civilians in the northeast.
