Ojy Okpe Asked Peter Obi About a Coalition, but His Answer Kept Speculation Alive
The NDC has reportedly given Peter Obi its presidential ticket and named Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate. With the 2027 campaign season approaching, I believe questions about whether Obi will contest should no longer be unclear. When Ojy Okpe asked whether he would step down for Atiku Abubakar in a genuine opposition coalition, a direct answer could have ended the speculation. Instead, Obi reportedly said such a decision would involve party structures and other stakeholders, not him alone. That position may be technically correct, but it is politically confusing. Obi’s supporters have followed him across political platforms, making his personal stance central to the movement. If the ticket is not negotiable, he should say so clearly. If it is open to coalition talks, Nigerians also deserve to know.
