Osun 2026 Election: Why Nigeria Must Defend Free, Fair and Peaceful Voting
As Osun voters go to the polls, I am concerned about the state of Nigeria’s democracy. Elections should give citizens the power to choose leaders freely, not serve the interests of one person, family, party or dominant group. Recent political tensions, alleged threats, inflammatory statements and reports of vote-buying raise serious questions about whether democratic institutions are protecting the public. Videos circulating online must be properly investigated, while election bodies must remain neutral and uphold free, fair and peaceful elections. I urge Osun residents to vote wisely and reject violence, intimidation and inducements. No political party owns Nigeria, no politician owns your vote, and no election should cost anyone their life. Beyond Osun, Nigerians must decide what kind of democracy we want to build ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
