Chimamanda Adichie Says Grief Has Changed How She Feels About Returning to Nigeria

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie says the death of her 21-month-old son, Nkanu, has changed her feelings about returning to Nigeria. In an interview with an international newspaper, the author said she does not currently want to visit the country again. She added that her children may be the reason she returns, noting that her daughter still sees Nigeria as her “happy place”. Adichie lost one of her twin boys in December 2025. She described the grief as surreal and difficult to process.
